At 7 a.m. on the morning of Sept. 24, approximately 60 Sarah Lawrence students departed from Andrews Parking for the march against the Iraq War in Washington, D.C.
Chaperones Dean Hubbard, professor of public policy, Rebecca Kline, Coordinator of Service Learning Placements with Community Partnerships, and junior Elizabeth Henderson, the organizer of the trip, accompanied the group to D.C.
The rally around the Ellipse began at 11:30 a.m. The march, though slow in starting, eventually led students down 15th street, past the back of the White House and Lafayette Park.
During the afternoon the "OperationCeasefire" concert took place near the Washington Monument. Arranged by the Thievery Corporation, the event featured the Bouncing Souls and Le Tigre, among others. Cindy Sheehan and other activists were also present at the concert.
The march and rally were part of a three day anti-war mobilization that featured workshops on and the application of activist skills.
The Peace and Justice Festival on Saturday and Sunday enabled anti-war activists to depart from Washington, D.C. with new contacts and tools for fighting the war.
